Jason Witten injury update: TE probable, will play for fantasy owners

Owner Jerry Jones said his goal is to stay in playoff contention while those players are injured, in part, because the Cowboys expect to add several key defensive players in the next few weeks. “But we have to be ready with a lot of different alternatives”.

The Dallas Cowboys will likely have Jason Witten starting in Week 3 after dealing with injuries against the Eagles, as the tight end practiced on Thursday for the Falcons matchup.

“It’s a great example to the rest of our team”, Garrett said.

Same with playing through two sprained ankles and a sprained left knee this week.

“You have to move forward”, Witten said. “Inoperable? Yeah, but the spleen thing alone showed me how he thinks about pain”.

“I was fortunate to just have the bumps and bruises and a couple sprains there, but just work through it”, Witten said.

Head coach Jason Garrett has plans in place if Witten can’t go, but the veteran has a pretty impressive track record with this sort of thing, having played in 189 consecutive games dating back to his rookie season, when he missed a game with a broken jaw. But he insists that’s not of import to him.

Witten declared after practice that he feels good and believes he will be able to play against Atlanta, according to The Dallas Morning News. That’s what I’ve been trying to do all week is get myself in position. “And that’s what I’m anticipating doing”. So much so, I’ll say it with no hesitation right now – he’s playing on Sunday.
