Javadekar commits gaffe, says Nehru, Sardar Patel and Netaji were hanged

Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday tweeted out a clarification of remarks he had made about freedom fighters at a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh, saying he at no point suggested that Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose or Jawaharlal Nehru were hanged.

While paying homage to freedom fighters, Javadekar said, “We salute our freedom fighters. So many bravehearts – Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru all were hanged, revolutionary Savarkarji and all other great fighters”. Javadekar has been severely criticised for his wrong sense of history as Sardar Ballavbhai Patel died in 1950, whereas Former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru died in 1964. “I hope this removes all confusion”, the minister said.

In the same rally, Modi had said that ‘Alexander’s army conquered the entire world, but was defeated by the Biharis.’ Alexander’s army, as history books would tell us, never crossed Ganga to be defeated by Biharis.

He also said Takshashila, the famous ancient seat of learning, was in Bihar, while in reality the place is in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi district under Punjab province.
