Jay Cutler, Danny Trevathan suffer thumb injuries

“He is the worst kind of quarterback you can possibly have”.

If Cutler is unable to play this week, he Bears will need to either bring in another quarterback to serve as Hoyer’s backup or activate former Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley, who is now on the team’s practice squad. Moreover, he’d been injured in the Week One game against the Texans, and he’d been trying to gut it out and play against the Eagles anyway.

McPhee, who is now on the physically unable to perform list, was not available to the media afterward, so it’s unknown whether he knew that Cutler’s thumb was already bothering him at the time of the interception.

After Nigel Bradham picked a Jay Cutler pass out of the air on the Bears’ 30-yard line, he saw a lot of green ahead of him. Houston is done for the season.

Cutler was replaced in the game by backup quarterback Brian Hoyer, who completed nine of his 12 passes for 78 yards. It was his first action as a Bear since the preseason finale, and he said he can benefit from that time.

“I think Philly is still without committing a turnover”, Favre said. “You just have to hope that the next man up is ready to go”. He was effective through the first two games of this season, and his absence creates a significant void on the Bears’ defensive front.

For Hoyer, there will be adjustments. And Lamarr Houston’s knee injury is still being described as serious, although the team is waiting on a more complete evaluation of his MRI before making the call on the outside linebacker’s season.

The Chicago Bears were never really in Monday night’s ugly home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. “But, the good thing is that we have a lot of good guys in there, and we have a bunch of good coaches, and we have 14 games left”. His range of motion is so big, he’s a big body guy who uses his strength.

“I mean, nothing has gotten going like we planned to”, Cutler said. “No matter who your quarterback is, if you’re dropping back and throwing it 45 or 50 times, it’s usually not a great result”. He’s not going to dominate every single game.

Pederson cooked up a game plan for the Chicago Bears that highlighted a variety of players and their skill sets. Hoyer was coming off one of the best years of his National Football League career with the Houston Texans in 2015. Now more than ever the team will need to band together and prove that they had reason to put the blame on Cutler. “At one point, we were 2-5 and we made the playoffs”.
