Jay Cutler Likely Sidelined For Cowboys Game, Brian Hoyer Probable Starter

Jay Cutler has a sprained right thumb that doesn’t need surgery right now, but John Fox wouldn’t rule it out entirely when the Bears’ head coach met the media Tuesday at Halas Hall.

Chicago lost five players to injury during Monday night’s loss to the Eagles, and some won’t be back anytime soon.

Brian Hoyer, a summer free agent signing, came in for Cutler and completed his first nine passes before ending nine of 12 for 78 yards, throwing incomplete passes on his last three attempts, all of them in the red zone.

Thus far, Matthews leads the Eagles with 20 targets through the first two games and has posted 13 receptions for 185 yards and one touchdown.

The Bears will be without starting quarterback Jay Cutler for potentially three weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. But it doesn’t appear like that at this point.

“I couldn’t get as much on it as I wanted”, he said about the interception.

He’ll turn to backup Brian Hoyer if, as expected, Cutler is unable to play. Right now we’re not playing as crisp as we need to on offense. On Tuesday morning, there was a report that Cutler suffered ligament damage in the thumb against the Houston Texans in the season opener and tried to play through it against the Eagles. Though, the Bears have not officially named Hoyer as the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game. If Jay’s ready to do it, fine.

It worsened when he tried to plant his hand breaking his fall on a strip-sack by Philadelphia’s Destiny Vaeao in the third quarter.

“It’s never good to lose your franchise quarterback, whether it’s for a play, a game or possibly even longer”, Bears tight end Zach Miller said. Defensive tackle Eddie Goldman injured his ankle in the game and will miss four weeks. “So at least you can get some of that to take in if I do have to play, and just getting out there and seeing a real defense come at you”. “I didn’t see it … but our guys have discussions all the time”.

Basically, after looking at all the injuries, the short week to prepare for Week 3, and the recent history against the Lions, in addition with their home disadvantage, there is a good chance that the Bears could start the first quarter of the 2016 National Football League season with a 0-4 record. That injury put him out of the lineup for the Bears for the remainder of that season.

“I felt like last night all of those boxes were checked in order for us to go for it on fourth down”.
