Jay Leno returns to Tonight Show to promote new show
Jay Leno made a surprise visit to “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday night, stepping in to deliver the monologue when his injury-prone successor, Jimmy Fallon, “pulled a muscle” during a joke about Sen. “Rather than just sit down and do panel, it’s fun to go out and do stand-up because that’s what I like to do”, Leno said afterward.

He tells unsuspecting passengers his name is Rocco and he asks whether they would prefer to be driven by Jay Leno or David Letterman. [LAUGHTER] See, this. Ralph Nader called Hillary Clinton a corporatist and a militarist. “I mean, on the majority, there are guys throwing tools at each other and getting into fake fights, and everyone’s covered in tattoos”.
The comedian joked about Democrat candidate Martin O’Malley, who he says has two percent of support in the polls. And while Fallon has been killing it on The Tonight Show, Leno’s old school comedy was a nice change of pace.
Jay Leno had not appeared as a guest on Letterman’s show since May 1992.
This is only the latest stop on Leno’s tour of appearances to promote his new CNBC show, Jay Leno’s Garage.
No word yet on whether Leno and his friends will be drinking coffee while he’s in cars.
“When you have to look an audience in the eye, you’re not quite as courageous as when you’re just talking into a microphone”, Leno added.
All he has to do is assure them that “Jay Leno’s Garage”, debuting at 10 p.m. EDT Wednesday on CNBC, won’t veer off the road.

He’s willing to assess the current state of late-night, lauding his “Tonight” successor, Jimmy Fallon, as well as Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah, who he boasts about spotting early on and bringing to “Tonight” in 2012.
