Jay Leno Takes Over for Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show

A familiar face returned to The Tonight Show Tuesday with Jay Leno subbing in for Jimmy Fallon during the monologue. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs on weeknights at 11:30 p.m. ET. Now, Leno finally explained the reason why he did not appear on Letterman’s final show.

Leno was more than happy to tag in for a few jokes, some of which, oddly enough, wouldn’t have been out of place during the former host’s tenure on the show. “He said Jay is putting his enormous chin where it doesn’t belong”. Bernie Sanders for president in 2016. Naturally, Leno had to throw in a big of banter about GOP frontrunner Donald Trump as well. The bit was set up with Fallon claiming that he thought he pulled a muscle on his last joke and needed a help, reports Fox News Insider.

Leno’s question to his passenger suggests, jokingly or otherwise, that he’s not ready to leave behind his infamous feud with Letterman, which erupted nearly a quarter-century ago over who would replace Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show”.

Before the episode taped, Fallon took to Twitter to announce the night’s guests – Lady Gaga, Ronda Rousey and Hailee Steinfeld – though he made no mention of Leno. Jay shares reviews on cars and cycles and fans seemingly hang on his every word.

Leno says he’d be eager to do a second season of Garage, assuming the first does well in the ratings.

After likening Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley’s 2% in the polls to “tying with two percent milk”, Leno pivoted to the crowded Republican field.

In his explanation of why Kimmel gave Leno “the shiv” as he put it, Stern said that Kimmel loved David Letterman and didn’t like when Leno lotted against him.
