Jaya unanimously elected as AIADMK Legislature party leader

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday thanked BJP chief Amit Shah for congratulating her on the “resounding victory” in the May 16 Assembly polls, stating she valued his good wishes.

Tamil Nadu Election Results 2016: “I will be indebted to people of Tamil Nadu for giving us this historic victory”, she added.

Another chief ministerial candidate, Anbumani Ramadoss of the PMK, also bit the dust in Pennagaram, losing to the DMK. This time, in a final tally of 232 out of 234 seats, the AIADMK won 134 seats while the DMK alliance won 98 seats. No other party or alliance has won any seat in the elections. The party members of AIADMK are in celebration mood, and some have even started celebrating at the party headquarters.

Tamil Nadu: Trends- (198/234) DMK leading in 81 seats, while AIADMK ahead on 115.

The fight ultimately was between the AIADMK and the DMK, proving yet again that there is no alternative in sight to the two Dravidian majors.

Jayalalithaa is likely to take oath for her second term as the Chief Minister on May 23rd.

When this correspondent spoke to a few of these women, they said no one understands the plight of women as much as Amma does. AIADMK is leading on 136 seats, while the DMK-Congress combine is leading on 92.

On Thursday, three decades later, Jayalalithaa emulated her mentor in recording successive wins and breaking the tradition of revolving door regimes in Tamil Nadu. As per the expectations, the overall Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016 result will be known by noon.

Karunanidhi’s family has dominated the state’s political scene since the 1960s, with the former screenwriter becoming its chief minister five times.

Her first term as CM in 1991-96 was perhaps the most eventful in this context.

Though her party lost polls in 2006, AIADMK emerged victorious in 61 seats that year and became a powerful opposition party.

Such gestures were used by DMK to portray their leader as an accessible and affable personality juxtaposing it with the perception of Jayalalithaa as an “inaccessible” leader.
