Jayalalithaa is likely to take oath for her second term as the Chief Minister on May 23rd. BJP and Others lead on one seat each.

The Chennai-based company, Sun TV, is owned by Kalanithi Maran, the grandnephew of DMK President M Karunanidhi.

While the AIADMK scored heavily in its strongholds in the state’s west, the DMK regained lost ground in central Tamil Nadu. Notably, ever since the mega scam, DMK’s popularity has been dwindling and it suffered a crushing defeat not only in 2011 Assembly polls, but was unable to open its account in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “Despite this, AIADMK is the ruling party and we are in the opposition”. According to the latest Election Commission data, AIADMK is leading in 132 seats, DMK in 87, Congress in 10, and others in two seats respectively.

AIADMK Supremo and Tamil NaduChief Minister J Jayalalithaa today thanked Governor Dr K Rosaiahand senior BJP leaders who had greeted her for returning to powerin the State. He congratulated her on the “historic” victory achieved by her party, said the release.

Riding on anti-incumbency, she, however, came back to power in 2001 with her party winning 132 seats. Former Housing Minister R. Vaithilingam lost to DMK’s M. Ramchandran by a margin of 3,645 votes in Orathanadu.

But her appointment as CM was quashed by the Supreme Court vis-à-vis the TANSI case and she was unseated though she eventually made a comeback as CM in 2002 after getting elected from Andipatti. The Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies which too contested all the seats suffered a similar fate.
