Wins rarely are witnessed by the home fans, so when the Jayhawks put together a comfortable win against Rhode Island on Saturday night, the students felt rushing the field was a worthy celebration.

Montell Cozart threw three touchdown passes, Ryan Willis had two more and third-string quarterback Carter Stanley also tossed one as the Jayhawks (1-0) won for the first time since beating Iowa State on November 8, 2014 – a span of 665 days that included the program’s first 0-12 record a year ago.
The Jayhawks begin year No. 2 of their coach’s vast rebuilding job Saturday night against Rhode Island, a lower-division bottom-dweller.
