The Toronto Blue Jays made it known that they would be buyers at the trade deadline when they acquired Melvin Upton Jr.in the midst of a series against the San Diego Padres.

The 18-year-old Gaudalupe Chavez is in his third professional season and second with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays.

The longtime Texas Ranger has been filling a swing-man role for the Blue Jays, something that corresponds with the reported move of Jesse Chavez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Mike Bolsinger.

He has a 2.90 ERA this season in 62 innings, having started five games and pitched in relief in 21. His most recent start came on June 28th, but Feldman has pitched two or more innings in all but one of his July relief appearances.

Bolsinger, 28, has made six starts for the Dodgers, posting a 1-4 record with a 6.83 ERA.

Jesse Chavez, acquired in the off-season from the Oakland A’s, has struggled badly out of the Jays’ bullpen this year, posting a 4.57 ERA while allowing almost half of his inherited runners to score.

Chavez is making $4 million this season, with roughly $1,355,191 remaining for the rest of the year. He fared much better against Triple-A opposition, as is usually the case, with his 3.81 ERA in 29-plus innings being vastly better than his big-league 2016 sample – 6.83 ERA in six starts.
