Jays’ Estrada has herniated disk in back

The information, which came to light Thursday ahead of the Blue Jays’ game against the Los Angeles Angels, has not been confirmed by the club.
The Jays now hold the second Wild Card spot in the American League and trail the Red Sox by two games in the division (with the Orioles one game up on Toronto as well). Estrada surrendered four runs in 5 1/3 innings last night but is still listed as the team’s probable starter when his spot in the rotation arises again on September 19 in Seattle. Estrada has completed six innings just twice in his past eight starts and, overall, has averaged fewer than 5 1/3 innings per start since the Midsummer Classic. The Blue Jays have allowed 16 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in nine of their last 14 games. He has hit four home runs over the past seven games.
Logan Forysthe singled and Keiermaier followed with a first-pitch home run. Since then, however, Happ was traded four times in the next six seasons and compiled a 42-54 record through last year’s trading deadline, when the Seattle Mariners sent him to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Late in the game, Toronto announced the hiring of former Boston general manager Ben Cherington as Vice President of Baseball Operations.
Donaldson’s hip may have been affecting him for a while.
The Toronto Blue Jays will continue their playoff quest behind their accidental ace when they start a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night at Angel Stadium.

Happ opposed the Angels once this year, allowing four runs in five innings during a 6-3 home loss on August 25. Over his last six starts, he’s got an ERA of 7.53.
