Jays rally with 12 straight runs to beat Yankees

All the Yankees runs against Estrada came in three different innings after two were out with no runners on base. It was 8-6 Toronto and the Yankees had officially coughed up what looked like a sure win.

Pineda went five innings, giving up no runs on five hits while striking out two.

Yankees rookie Gary Sanchez got things started, belting a solo shot in the second inning for his third homer in the major leagues. After going scoreless off Michael Pineda through five innings Toronto hit four home runs off New York’s bullpen following a 42-minute rain delay.

It’s the offence showing plenty signs of life – with Kevin Pillar and Jose Bautista injured – that is blowing both hot and cold, especially in a wild 12-6 victory of the Yankees on Tuesday night. Of all the starters, I’d be concerned about the six man rotation impacting him the most since he relies on the “feel” of his off speed pitches while mixing and matching. We’ll have to keep a close eye on Estrada going forward.

Yankees: RHP Michael Pineda (6-10, 5.07) has won three of his last five starts.

Brian McCann, Tuesday’s designated hitter, has started just once at catcher since August 5 and even Girardi didn’t sound certain about his future. On Monday, it was his most frequently thrown pitch, using it a little more than 41% of the time.

Once the rain cleared, everything changed. The two-out home run made it 2 – 0, Yankees.

Sanchez wasn’t as selective in his next at-bat, with two out in the fourth inning.

They also hit four home runs for the eighth time but first instance since July 5 and beat the Yankees for the eighth time in 11 meetings this season.

Since coming back to the Yankees from Chicago, Adam Warren has retired 32 of 39 batters in nine appearances. He’s been up and down – both in terms of results, and in terms of shuttling to and from the minors – but the Yankees believe he’s a better pitcher today than when they got him from Detroit, and it seemed to show in tonight’s six shutout innings with 11 strikeouts.

In a city that’s had its share of big-time catchers, Yankees fans have good reason to feel excited about the one behind the plate right now. Wendelstedt stayed in for the rest of the inning, then left for the night. That is not to say that the Yankees will never become good, and eventually they will, because the nucleus to get better is in place with the youth movement.

After Clippard pitched a clean seventh, it was Warren who picked a fine time to allow his first runs as a Yankee since being reacquired at the trade deadline in the Chapman deal. EE would ground into a fielders choice, but it would be for his 100th RBI on the season, and we’re only halfway through August.

Troy Tulowitzki came up with a one out single to left in a tied game as part of his four-hit night which drove his OPS on the season north of.800. That’s one heck of a comeback when you consider it stood at.569 back on May 9.

Brad Miller, the next Tampa Bay batter, then hit a comebacker to Happ, who smartly relayed the ball to catcher Russell Martin, who tagged out Forsythe, who was churning for home from third base on the play, at the plate.

It marked the first time in the AL and fourth in major-league history the feat has been accomplished, according to the Yankees’ public relations department.

But the catalyst for that record-setting eighth inning was a 12 pitch at-bat by Josh Donaldson, who wound up with a walk (and walked a second time in the inning to mark his first career, multi-walk inning). I think Estrada pitched well, just a couple pitches that were left up.It was big night for numerous guys.Martin had a big game previous year here against these guys.

In 12 starts on more than four days’ rest, Estrada is 4-5 with a 3.57 ERA and the Blue Jays hope he resembles the pitcher who allowed one run and four hits in seven innings August 3 in Houston.

Happ regrouped, getting the unsafe Evan Longoria to ground out to second, which advanced both base runners 90 feet. He faced the Blue Jays April 13 in Toronto and allowed two earned runs and five hits in six innings.
