The rankings were based on the measured overall satisfaction from customers (2,696 from smartwatches, 2,949 from fitness bands) who purchased a smartwatch device.
J.D. Power breaks down the results into more detail, explaining that Apple won over smartwatch owners primarily thanks to comfort, styling/appearance and ease of use.
About Making Comments on our Site: Patently Apple reserves the right to post, dismiss or edit any comments. When customers experience one or more problems with their smartwatch, there is a significant 21-point drop in overall satisfaction.
The report took into consideration: the ease of use, comfort, battery life, phone connectivity features, price, durability, display size, appearance, availability of apps, among other aspects.
Samsung follows Apple’s lead with a score of 842. It scored points for customer service, display size, and features. “Those that do so early in the game may improve their opportunity to increase satisfaction, customer loyalty and repurchase intention”.
Interestingly, the average score was 847, the middle distance between Apple and Samsung. The biggest complaint was running out of battery power or the battery not charging properly.
Samsung however managed to secure first place in the fitness band category, something where Apple does not wish to participate. Garmin (836) ranked second, performing well in four factors: customer service, ease of use, strength/durability and reliability.
The survey also revealed some issues with all smartwatches, such as the battery not lasting long enough, and difficulty customizing them. Consumers who purchased them said they most often relied on online shopping websites and recommendations from family and friends in deciding which one to buy. “People still rely on the smartphone for the smartwatch category”, he says. Fitness trackers provide wearers with information about physical activity.
