JD(U) asks Lalu to rein in his leaders

Congress state President Ashok Choudhary said: “If there is a problem with or complaint against Nitish Kumar, then the RJD is free to exit the grand alliance-led-government”.

To a query, Lalu replied, “Despite telling him repeatedly, Raghubansh Singh speaks something to media”.

The former parliamentarian and RJD strongman was arrested in November 2005 in relation to the murder of Rajiv Raushan, who was the prime witness in the murder of two brothers in Siwan district on August 16, 2004.

The Congress leader further said making critical comments against each other by staying in the grand alliance sends out a wrong message to the people of Bihar. These have irked the Chief Minister and the JD-U party ranks. But it was court who jailed me, Court has released me. Stung by Shahabuddin’s acerbic remarks, another JD-U spokesman Niraj Kumar had hit back yesterday and threatened strong action against the RJD leader but did not elaborate.

“The whole world knows that the people of Bihar have given me the mandate”.

Amid this populist image, Shahabuddin was linked with the murder of political rivals, the most infamous being the killing of former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president Chandrasekhar in 1997.

Asked about Mr. Shahabuddin release, the JD (U) leaders said: “We don’t want to comment on a person who comes and goes to jail in criminal cases…law will take its own course”. For us, Lalu Prasad is our leader.

Bihar government has asserted that they tried their best to oppose bail to don-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin in the Rajiv Roshan murder case.

The three parties had entered into a pre-poll alliance and gone to the hustings after declaring Nitish Kumar as the coalition’s chief ministerial face. After spending 11 years in jail, he is giving sermons now. “It is a government’s well planned strategy which cleared the way of Shahabuddin in securing bail”, senior BJP leader Sushil Modi said.
