Jeb Bush Campaign Cutting Salaries, Staff: Internal Memo

Theyre all challenged by whats going on, Andrew Card said about the Bush family, referring to the roller-coaster ride of a campaign.

The comments came as Bush’s headquarters on Friday announced a new round of staffing changes, including reductions and pay cuts.

In response, Bush cited a number of candidates who have held early leads in Republican contests and then faded, a list that ranges from Herman Cain to Rudy Giuliani. A recent Iowa poll has Bush sitting fifth well behind Ben Carson and Donald Trump.

But anyway, we’re clearly not Jeb’s target audience, and perhaps they respond to a leader who’s so unable to work with the other branches of government that they end up suing him in frustration.

“We are moving our resources into the states to ensure that voters in primary and caucus states are introduced to his record and vision for the future”, said Bush spokeswoman Allie Brandenburger. Brinton says that the candidate in the best position to win is Cruz, and that Rubio, Carly Fiorina, and Trump are also in the mix.

The retreat will give donors a sense of where the campaign stands now and what is planned for the next 100 days, an aide said.

Now, Bush is facing questions as to whether he has the ability to remain a viable candidate. As you watch, ruminate about this sharp point made by Myra Adams: Murphy called Trump a “false zombie frontrunner” who’s ultimately unelectable, but isn’t that exactly what Jeb himself was in the early pre-Trump stage of this race? The outcomes in those first two states have ripple effects in South Carolina, Nevada and other states that quickly follow. A key test will be next week when he appears on stage with his rivals at the third Republican debate, in Boulder, Colorado. Even more ominous, his New Hampshire numbers have plateaued or sunk further despite weeks of ads from the SuperPAC run by confidante Mike Murphy.

He’s also set to emphasize more strongly the idea of Bush being the country’s next commander and chief, while drawing a contrast to Hillary Clinton, who’ll they’ll attack as a reckless secretary of state.

News of the campaign restructuring comes just as the Super PAC backing Bush’s White House bid debuted a new advertisement to run in Iowa and New Hampshire that touts Bush’s time as governor. “He’s going to have to start to show a few muscle”.

On a Friday conference call, top officials said resources would shift heavily to ballot access and voter contact. His campaign has spent nearly $2 million on payroll and another $2 million on consultants. They include many names already associated with the Bushes in the Lone Star State: former state Rep. Dan Branch of Dallas, Tyler oil and gas attorney Gaylord Hughey, El Paso real estate developer Woody Hunt, Houston pipeline tycoon Rich Kinder and his wife, Nancy, Texas congressman-turned-lobbyist Tom Loeffler, Fort Worth philanthropist Kit Moncrief and Warren Tichenor, former USA ambassador to the United Nations. Supporters hope the changes will be enough to keep Bush afloat through a long, and so far surprising, campaign. “But he’s solid and steady”.
