Jeb Bush: New Hampshire race is ‘wide-open’

Because they can vote in either primary – and a portion of them are still mulling over that choice – “the influence they could have on either primary is an unknown going in”, Koczela said. Kasich told voters Tuesday morning in Newbury.

Heading into the New Hampshire primary, Gov. Chris Christie is blasting Marco Rubio and hoping the attacks can sustain his campaign in what’s quickly becoming a three-man race for the White House.

Merola was descended upon by reporters on Wednesday in Laconia after he confronted Marco Rubio, saying that the Florida Senator had campaigned against “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants in his 2010 senate run, but then reversed course when he co-sponsored the 2013 comprehensive immigration bill that passed the Senate but never came up for a vote in the House.

Trump latched onto it as a reason to invalidate Cruz’s victory over him in Iowa. He and Hillary Clinton seem likely to wage a long battle of attrition. “I think he’s been called out for that repeatedly and I think people see it for what it is”.

In a written statement provided to The Arizona Republic by Rubio’s campaign, Salmon, R-Ariz., said he “wholeheartedly” believes Rubio is the right person for the Oval Office, based on his national-security credentials, and “has a proven and tested record, and has the ability to unite our party and win in November”. Normally, voters want executive experience in presidential nominees. But, he also tells them, he believes conservatism is about making sure society’s most vulnerable members aren’t left behind. He also makes it a point, without being asked, to talk about his famous political family, embracing the legacy of his father, George H.W. Bush, and older brother, George W. Bush. “If it’s not that, get out, go do something else”. When asked by NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez whether he planned to deliver a “knockout blow” to Jeb Bush, Rubio said only, “I just want to do as well as we possibly can here in New Hampshire”. He demurred when given an opportunity to draw sharper contrasts with Rubio. But that’s what you’ve had to do for someone who’s never done anything like that. “It’s not just progressives, it’s not just Democrats who are profoundly disgusted with a campaign finance system that allows billionaires to buy elections”, he said to cheers. He says Bush and Christie should tell the super PACs backing them to take down negative television ads, several of which slam Kasich.

But this past week, they’ve homed in on one particular punching bag: Marco Rubio.

Kasich hasn’t always approached politics with such a sunny disposition. But he called Paul a “real believer” in the issues that matter to him. And with a telegenic face, a wide smile and a rags-to-riches immigrant story, Rubio is attracting hundreds of people to town halls across New Hampshire.

Maybe not. Remember, New Hampshire isn’t Iowa, and New England Republicans aren’t always reflexively right-wing on social issues the way the GOP is in most of the country.

“He kind of jumped forward fast, and that’s good because I kind of like Rubio”, added David Swaim from a few tables back.
