Jeff Fisher: Goal is for Jared Goff start opening night

When the Los Angeles Rams made the unprecedented move to trade from the 15th pick in the 2016 National Football League draft to the first overall pick, it was obviously with drafting their franchise quarterback in mind.

The NFL Draft, a bit of a buzzkill for Mississippi’s Laremy Tunsil.

The Rams, who had 10 minutes to make a selection once the draft was declared open shortly after 5 p.m., stretched the suspense by waiting about seven minutes before submitting the team’s pick, which was then announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“I made that mistake several years ago”, Tunsil said.

Finally, the Miami Dolphins said yes, at No. 13. “I made the transition from high school to college pretty seamlessly and kind of expect to do the same thing”. Somehow, somebody got in my photos and hacked my Twitter account and somebody hacked my Instagram account, so it’s insane. Tunsil later said his account was hacked, and the video was quickly removed. “I carry it with me forever”, he said. “I had to go out on the red carpet with the crop top”. Assistant athletic director Larry Gondola had Goff in two classes and says even when he was at Cal, he never forgot his roots. For days, the biggest draft question involved which quarterback would go to the Rams.

“I felt very comfortable with their whole staff”, Goff told ESPN in Chicago.

It was widely thought that Goff would be their man, to the point that Philadelphia traded up to the No. 2 spot knowing that North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz – whom they preferred – would be there for the taking. “It was awesome”, Wentz said. “But at the same time, it’s only the beginning, only the beginning of what I hope is a long career”. The Rams said earlier this year that Case Keenum would be the Rams starter going into training camp. Both chose to skip the draft’s return to Chicago after 50 years in NY.

Granted, Wentz didn’t face the level of competition in the Missouri Valley Football Conference that Goff had in the Pacific 12 Conference.

The games are why we watch of course, and the Super Bowl is the ultimate goal for every team each year, but when it comes to pure intrigue, nothing beats this time of year. “I’m sure (when) you look at the mock draft, there’s very few that actually guess right”.

First-year San Francisco coach Chip Kelly reunited with one of his prized college recruits when the 49ers selected OR defensive end DeForest Buckner seventh overall. Offensive tackle Taylor Decker to Detroit and speedy linebacker Darron Lee to the Jets ran the Ohio State total to five of the top 20. “He’s got to learn the offense, get to know his teammates, start getting in sync with the receivers, so when that happens, I don’t know”.

The Titans then returned to the top 10 through a trade with the Browns and selected Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin at No. 8.
