Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: Had a top-10 run going – one of the few this season – and trouble on his pit stop left him in 17th.

Then And now: Ty Dillon is the defending victor of the Xfinity race at IMS, the third time the series has raced at the fabled and legendary track.

Johnson is fourth in the point standings this year.

The offshoot of the victory is that Busch’s hopes of making the Chase now are better than realistic.

Another adjustment this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway may be less effective in refreshing one of the major events of the NASCAR season, however. “To me, it’s a special place to go to because of its heritage of being Indianapolis”.

Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Over the course of the next seven weeks, Busch will be racing for the second time at Pocono (Aug. 2) and Michigan (Aug. 16). Many have criticized the capacity to pass and the lack of capacity in the stands. The canal will remain purple for the remainder of race weekend.

“I think we have to get better racing”, Penske added. As a result, NASCAR is handing wins to Busch to assure he gets into the top-30 in points before the chase begins. “I’m probably running 100 percent. You really have to be particular in hitting your marks and getting your vehicle set up”. For his career, Kurt Busch has 27 wins in 523 NASCAR Sprint Cup starts.

Busch, of course, has benefitted from a resurgence in all four Joe Gibbs Racing teams.

“It was one of the best moments of my racing career, one that I’ll never forget”, Dillon said.

This week will be no walk in the park as the stakes are just as high as they have ever been.

“We weren’t as good as we needed to be last year, but certainly this year it seems to be that things are coming together for us, and all those guys working at the shop have been a huge part of that”. To do so at Indianapolis, where he has won the Brickyard twice previously, would help salvage his poor start and also likely put him into the Chase…. The No. 24 will be on the hood of the pace vehicle Sunday, too.

Victor of the past two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and three of the last four events, Kyle Busch will attempt to become the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2007 to take the checkered flag in three consecutive races when he gets behind the wheel for Sunday’s Crown Royal presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (3:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network).

“I’ve been kind of anxious to get over to the Cup garage and ask questions”, Elliott said of dipping his toes into the top series this season.

He has already run three – Martinsville, where he finished 38th, Richmond (16th) and Charlotte (18th) – and now will try to earn a spot in Sunday’s Brickyard 400.
