Earlier, MNA Dr Tariq Fazal, who has been appointed by the PM’s Secretariat as the focal person for the Mina tragedy, told a news conference that the death toll from the Mina tragedy was 1,100.

Jeddah: As the probe into the stampede in Mina continues, an Iranian official and video cameras at Jamarat have confirmed that a group of 300 Iranian pilgrims coming from the opposite direction caused the crush, according to a media report.

Among those still missing, 36 pilgrims performed Haj under the Private Scheme, while the rest of 27 were from the Government Scheme.

Meanwhile, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has begun a census of the country’s pilgrims in Saudi Arabia following reports that some Nigerians pilgrims were still missing.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdulaziz on Thursday offered his condolences to the families of the victims and promised that “the improvement of the methods and mechanisms of the Hajj season will not stop”.

On the behalf of the prime minister, Chaudhry announced Rs500,000 and Rs200,000 compensation for the heirs of each martyred and injured pilgrim respectively. It is quite possible these governments also fall short of their responsibility, as apparently happens to be the case of Pakistan.

Iran’s Mission to the United Nations said Rouhani was cancelling events on Tuesday and would return to Tehran after addressing the U.N. gathering because of “the tragic events” at the hajj, the annual pilgrimage to the Muslim holy city of Mecca.

He added that the airlifting of the pilgrims from the state back home would commence from October 1, till October 6, 2015.
