Pitt ended up leaving Aniston to embark on his 12-year relationship with Jolie, which seemed to unite over their parenting six children and which seemed to pull together even more after they married in 2014. While Pitt and Jolie won praise for their on-screen chemistry in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, their most recent film collaboration, “By the Sea”, past year was about a married couple drifting apart.

Breaking his silence, Brad said the well-being of their kids “matter the most now”.

They revealed that Angelina, 41, maintains Pitt is the love of her life, and says the decision has “weighed heavy on her heart”. Her first leading role in a major film came in 1995 in “Hackers”.

An actress Alyssa Milano appeared to be particularly saddened by the news, as she took to the micro-blogging site to write: ‘WTF? It’s the third for Jolie Pitt, who was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

An attorney for Jolie Pitt, Robert Offer, said Tuesday in a statement that she has filed for the dissolution of the marriage.

Jolie and Pitt tied the knot in August 2014 in a private ceremony in south of France after meeting on the sets of their 2005 film Mr & Mrs Smith. He received Oscar nominations for best actor for his work in “Moneyball” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, and was nominated for his supporting role in “Twelve Monkeys” that won him a Golden Globe.

Together they started the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2006 to help charities worldwide.
