Jennifer Lawrence, Adam McKay Team on Movie About Theranos Founder

According to Variety, the pair just signed on for an untitled feature about biotech company founder Elizabeth Holmes, who was recently (and briefly) listed by Forbes magazine as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire.

Deadline Hollywood, which first reported the story, said Lawrence will play the company’s 32-year-old founder. The film is being directed by Adam McKay who won an Oscar past year for “The Big Short”. Theranos and its promising tech was valued at $9 billion but following allegations that its blood tests are inaccurate, that value has since dropped, considerably.

Though this investigation is still unfolding, its financial effects are already being felt by Holmes and Theranos’ shareholders since the company’s value plummeted once word of the deeper look into their practices went public. It’s corrected and voided tens of thousands of tests and Holmes’ net worth has been struck down to $0 by Forbes.

Deadline writes, “In Lawrence, [McKay] may have found the ideal leading lady to embody Holmes, at one point the latest poster child for medical innovation and potential profitability”.

Theranos told Business Insider it has no comment on the film project. There’s plenty here for McKay and Lawrence to sink their teeth into and it’s possible that the craziest twists to the story are yet to come, especially since Theranos, in spite of all of its problems, is still now valued at $800 million.
