Jennifer Lawrence up for Best Actress in ‘Joy’
Funny Or Die highlights the fact that the Oscar winner’s youthful look has been practically ignored throughout her film career in a video entitled, “Old Lady Who Looks Really Young & Hot starring Jennifer Lawrence”.

One day, Joy took a leap of faith. Prices range from $29.99 for the mop to $100 for the pillow.
“Joy” is an unpretentious, straightforward story of a housewife from Long Island who succeeds in spite of all the socially conceived odds stacked against her. She endures criticism and vocal derision from her family and close friends who can’t believe she has the intelligence, creativity, fortitude and perseverance to win in business. Increasingly frustrated with ordinary mops, she develops the self-wringing Miracle Mop, which becomes a TV shopping channel best-seller.
“It should be Brie Larson’s year”, she said. But many of these moments still have a very strong undercurrent of comedy, and the screenplay falters when a solution to all of Joy’s problems appears out of nowhere because, it suggests, she has been pushed to the brink.
Jennifer Lawrence has launched to fame in recent years on the commercial success of the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise and the critical success of David O. Russell movies like Silver Linings Playbook. Resultantly this amplifies the heartbreak and humour of the film as we live this story with her; the slow panning shots and heavy use of close-ups helping to enhance the claustrophobia closing in around Joy’s dreams. The real McCoy is a divorced mother of three. Joy may not be the instant equal to the other two films but this semi-biographical movie comes forward as a very personal and involving tale of inspiration and success.
Jennifer Lawrence really doesn’t want to talk about boys. On Gold Derby, Lawrence is just ahead of veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling-who, in my humble opinion, should win the whole thing for her quietly devastating turn in “45 Years”.
And, in true J Law fashion, the lovable actress was so impressed that she actually tried to call in to order the products. The movie repeatedly reminds us that Mangano was the valedictorian of her senior class, treating high school as if it were light-years away. Last year, she said she lost out on a part playing the love interest to a 55-year-old man because she’s too old. Katniss might have fought an oppressive dictator, but Joy had to deal with her insane family members who were much worse.

J Law shared, “Bradley’s mom bought everything from QVC, and he had a Miracle Mop in his dorm room in college so he watched me mop in one scene and was like, ‘Dude, no!’ and showed me a better way”. Joy is sometimes hard to figure out, including the title, which like the rest of the film, seems to just miss the bullseye-as if it is in the ring just outside it on the target board.
