Lopez is reportedly slated to play Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in an upcoming TV movie for HBO.

Lopez will executive produce with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas via Nuyorican Productions. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the ideal fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life”. For those who aren’t up on the drug smuggling business” leading ladies, Blanco rose to notoriety in the “70s and ’80s for her Miami-based cocaine trade.

Lopez will also executive produce the TV movie, the title of which has yet to be determined.

Bringing Blanco’s story to the screen has clearly been a longtime passion project for Lopez.

Jennifer Lopez may now play a cop on Shades of Blue, but her newest role has her on another side of the law. In 2012, Blanco was killed in a driveby shooting in Medellin after being shot twice in the head. He was working on a separate production, titled Cocaine Cowboys, for Paramount at the time. Blanco was arrested in 1985 and sentenced to nearly two decades in a USA prison before being deported and, by reported accounts, going on to live a quiet life in Colombia’s second-largest city, Medellín, which has its own reputation as a favorite home-base for drug kingpins and cartels.
