Earlier, the Mayor of London warned that history had shown the Labour Party that splits lead to years in the political wilderness. Cheers from supporters watching the speech drowned out the rest of the answer.

“We are pleased that Jeremy Corbyn has committed to two of the goals we set the new Prime Minister: introducing compulsory SRE in schools, and establishing new funding arrangements to ensure domestic violence refuges are properly supported as well as ensuring the criminal justice system treats women with sensitivity and respect”, said Walker.
“Owen Smith is not a figure of weight, influence and significance and I wouldn’t believe that he would be able to give very effective leadership of a kind we had then”.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn continued his tour of Wales yesterday – addressing thousands of supporters at rallies in Merthyr Tydfil and Swansea.
He proposes the introduction of a National Investment Bank to lead a £500bn investment programme in United Kingdom infrastructure, including investment in public and community-owned renewable energy.
Mr Corbyn paid tribute to Mr O’Sullivan saying he had “huge admiration” for a “lovely man”.
Owen Jones, a left-wing commentator who pushed for Corbyn’s election past year, warned Labour needed a radical change of strategy to win back lost voters and reach new ones.
“If they need anyone knocking at the doors it is us they turn to”.
There have been some critics who have said that the Labour leader has massive core support, but few polices, well this afternoon he plans to change that.
“But I think the principles I have set out here today are things that will actually appeal to a very wide range of people in our society”.
“I wish it had been by more but we were ahead of them at the end of it and the party is growing massively in membership – that must show something”. He insisted Labour can win a general election under his leadership.
Smith also defended Labour MPs, the majority of which passed a vote of no confidence in Corbyn.
“The assembly election results, we gained some seats as well as losing one”, he said. “Not radical in protesting against the Tories”.
Rejecting the idea that the markets would take fright at more borrowing, he said: “It would barely spook the markets if virtually every single independent economic adviser has provided that advice to the government and other European capitals. When you reach some limits of monetary policy you reach for fiscal stimulus”.
Mr Corbyn spoke after ally and shadow chancellor John McDonnell accused Mr Smith of trying to “blackmail” the party by threatening to split it if he loses the September 24 poll.
Referring to the challenger, Mr Smith, Mr Rickhuss said: “In a short space of time he has laid out detailed plans to make workplaces fairer and more prosperous”.
