Jeremy Corbyn will stay in leadership battle, judge decides

This did not result in Ukip winning seats, but it let in nine Tories…

Wealthy donor Mr Foster, who sued the party, now faces a hefty bill after being told to pay three sets of legal fees – for himself, the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn.

This barrage of hatred was the only card that the coup plotters could play that stood a chance of succeeding, but Corbyn standing firm against all of this immediately contradicted the plotters’ main complaint – his supposed weakness.

People “want a Labour government that is angry (along) with them” and “it is up to us to unite and heal Great Britain and to do that austerity has to be defeated”. In 2015, Corbyn only just scraped onto that year’s leadership ballot with the required number of nominations at the last minute.

If the judgment had gone against Mr Corbyn, Labour would have had to re-run the nomination process, potentially leading to a contest in which the incumbent leader could not defend his position.

The college lecturer says Mr Corbyn’s “principled” stance means that he still thinks the Islington North MP is the man for the job.

With Scotland facing the prospect of a second independence referendum as a result of the majority of Scots voting to remain in the European Union, the former Labour first minister said the Scottish party must think beyond the leadership battle. “I feel there is no point being a political party if you don’t win and you are not electable, and can not put your values and ideals into practice”.

“Since he became leader, we have campaigned hard on the cuts to the disabled and on things like the Saudi prisons contract”.

Owen Smith was forced to apologise yesterday after he said Labour should aim to “smash Theresa May back on her heels”.

That positive opinion on Mr Corbyn’s campaigning success is not shared by those who work directly with the former journalist and trade unionist.

Corbyn had already stated that as current leader of the Labour Party he should automatically be on the contest’s ballot.

“MPs were criticising him, saying he was only “seven-out-of-ten” for Europe and saying he should have lied, but that is preposterous”.

‘People in Britain are right to be furious about the inequality that exists, ‘ he said. If you are doing that, you can’t then blame the striker for not scoring enough goals.

Corbyn, however, remains hugely popular among the party’s membership who will ultimately decide.

The move was seen as an attempt to oust Mr Corbyn by effectively blocking him from running in the contest, leaving his challenger, Owen Smith, unopposed.

If he had been forced to seek nominations from Labour members of parliament, Corbyn would likely not have won enough support to get on the ballot paper.
