Jeremy Vine is voted off Strictly

Jeremy Vine has become the latest star to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

Despite ending up with lowest scores on the leaderboard for many weeks, Vine managed to stay in the competition.

But that wasn’t without countless references to the hallowed Blackpool Tower Ballroom, where crews will be moving in for the show today.

In 2008, John Sergeant famously pulled out of the show after being kept in by fans week after week, despite not being able to dance very well.

He admitted that he was “beginning to get nervous” that he would knock a good dancer out of the show.

Darcey Bussell added: “Well, both couples performed so well tonight but the couple I would like to save is Jamelia and Tristan”.

The 34-year-old regular on Loose Women said of her samba: “This is the dance I most enjoyed so I’ll enjoy dancing it again”.

She explained: “I think it’s important not to be too risqué”. It also means I get to be your Liveblog stand-in for the night and chortle at your comments, so please keep them coming. I understand why people don’t vote for me, they may not know who I am. He added “Your face goes dead, you’ve got to do something about that”. “My wife has said that at the next wedding we are at we are going to have to try to waltz, but the floor will be cleared before that happens!”

Fighting back the tears, Clifton said: “You’re unbelievable”.

He said: “It’s very tough – it could nearly be any of them”. Just right now at this moment I’m going to say Helen George. But I would probably change that tomorrow. “And I wouldn’t rule out Anita Rani”.

In fact, the general consensus on social media is that we’ve made a grave error in letting Vine go before next week’s Blackpool special, where he was set to be lowered into the studio on a guitar accompanied by a few impressive pyrotechnics… Pop band Years and Years opened the Sunday night results show.
