MTV are set to launch a Classic channel featuring 90s and 00s shows and music.
MTV plans to offer up something special for the first hour of the revamped channel. Although this is a cable channel, the network is also going to appease those without cable by offering its fans a chance to watch what they are calling, “MTV Hour One”, through a special streaming on Facebook Live.
According to a released from the network, the rebrand takes effect on Monday, August 1 – 35 years to the day that MTV first debuted – at 6:00 a.m. when MTV Classic will air “MTV Hour One”, MTV’s first hour of programming from 1981.
MTV president Sean Atkins says: “MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance”.
The fun begins with a marathon containing the most memorable MTV: Unplugged episodes that feature legendary performances by Kurt Cobain, Bob Dylan, Alice In Chains, Erykah Badu, Oasis, Neil Young, etc.
