Jerry Jones: Putting Romo back on the field was worth the risk

Tony Romo and the Cowboys face a Carolina Panthers team that has won 14 regular-season games in a row.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) is helped off the field by team staff after suffering an unknown injury in the second half of a game against the Carolina Panthers Nov. 26, 2015, in Arlington, Texas. After returning from the original broken collarbone – which occurred at Philadelphia in Week 2 – Romo threw a combined five interceptions against the Miami Dolphins and Panthers.

“He does have a hairline of a fracture there at the same location and he is out for the year”, Jones said. After breaking a bone in his foot against the New York Giants on week one, it has been a disappointing season for Bryant and the Cowboys.

Safety Kurt Coleman picked off Romo’s second pass less than a minute into the game and took it back 36 yards for a score. Overall, they only let Cam Newton take his team into the end zone once in the game, which was impressive considering how many points Carolina has been scoring this season.

Losing Romo, who already missed seven games earlier this season due to a broken left clavicle, for any period of time would further damage the Cowboys’ fading playoff hopes. “We felt the risk was worth the potential for having him be the impact he can be and really having a fairytale turnaround and doing something that was special”. Brandon Weeden was 0-3 filling in before Cassel lost all four of his starts. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said initial X-rays were negative but Romo is expected to be examined again by doctors on Friday.

Here is the play where Romo got injured.

“You know anytime you see somebody go down on the field, especially because I know how hard he worked to get back, your heart goes out for him”, Cassel said. You should never quit trying to do something that is extraordinary.

BILLS: Defensive tackle Kyle Williams will undergo surgery on his left knee and miss the rest of the season.

Between the immediate deficit on the scoreboard and the lack of any effective running, the Cowboys quickly became a one dimensional offense, having to go to the air to try and make up ground quickly.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – DeMarcus Ware’s lower back injury will keep him out of Sunday night’s showdown between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.
