Jerry Jones says Cowboys are ‘closer’ than their 4-11 record indicates
Weeden began the season with Dallas, but was claimed by Houston after Jerry Jones’ team uncermoniously cut him.

Forgive Brandon Weeden, he must be feeling wildly confident after winning his first start since the 2012 season – so confident that he’s not afraid to take any shots at Jerry Jones.
In an appearance on 107.7 The Franchise on Monday, Weeden couldn’t help himself when asked if it would be extra satisfying to head to the playoffs while the Cowboys, and specifically the ever-critical Jones, watched from home.
“I think we’re closer, and I say that because when it gets off-balance, when it gets out of kilter, it really goes off the road”, Jones said. “We’re earned it, and we’ve got it. If we evaluate and get an opportunity to get a couple of players there, we got to look at it hard”. After all, Jones is quick to say, Romo’s presence allows the Cowboys’ offense to operate with balance and that balance has a ripple effect through the rest of the team.
Weeden began the year with Dallas and recently said in an interview that it would be “sweet” to advance to the playoffs with Houston, given that the Cowboys have been eliminated. Not long after that, Weeden was replaced by Matt Cassel, and soon enough he was out of a job altogether. Dallas is 4-11 and on quarterback No. 4 thanks to injuries and incompetence. “We could see the risk of that hit us a little bit, but hopefully we’ll be getting our share of them over on the defense with this group we’ve got”.
For Brandon Weeden, revenge is the best motivator. He followed with a start against the Titans that saw the Texans win 34-6 on Weeden’s 200 passing yards.
Cassel was worse than Weeden, and was benched last week for inexperienced Kellen Moore. Washington’s visit Sunday is the same because the Redskins have clinched after running off three straight wins since a loss to the Cowboys that temporarily gave Dallas hope. Everybody here has got my back. They have a lot of different fronts, a lot of different pressures, a lot of different coverages behind those pressures, and I just thought he managed all of that fairly well.

“On the other hand, I don’t blame it all on the quarterback. When it’s all said and done, that’s really all that matters”.
