Jerry Jones says Cowboys won’t tank or sit Tony Romo

Regardless of whether the 2-6 Cowboys have a shot at the postseason, Tony Romo won’t be sitting on the sideline. No 2-6 team has ever made the playoffs in the current format.

The Giants lead at 5-4 but still have to face the New England Patriots and have struggled in all of their wins, too. The Washington Redskins (3-5) are next. There are games we could have easily won without him being there.

Two of the losses have been on opposing touchdowns to start overtime (New Orleans and the Eagles), another thanks to a go-ahead kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter (New York Giants) and a fourth on a late drive to a field goal (Seattle). Jason Pierre-Paul is back, giving the defense a boost it needs even more now that defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is out for the rest of the season. He also had 6 catches for 83 yards.

“If I was to tell you at the midpoint of the season that you were in first place in the division, would it make a difference?”

IN SAM CHIP TRUSTS: Kelly has stuck with Sam Bradford at quarterback through several ups and downs in the first half. Bradford was efficient, he ran the offense well and did not turn the ball over. “I think not only our game but sports in general, if you’ve got an opportunity, if you got a chance to win this thing, then you take it”. They still have to go to Carolina, Chicago, Philadelphia and Dallas so 0-8 is realistic. When the run game with Alfred Morris and rookie Matt Jones is working, the Redskins are tough to beat. The NFC East has been football’s weakest division besides the lowly AFC South. However I think all these teams have talent and none of these teams have played their best football. Taking that loss out of the equation, the Cowboys have lost five games at a deficit average of 5.4 points per game. However, this team had to deal with the loss of their elite quarterback and All Pro receiver at the same time.

And the running attack was even better, more than 27 times better than the first Dallas-Philadelphia game to be precise (at 172 yards and two TDs).

This season compares nowhere to what all of us witnessed last season (a trip to the divisional round of the playoffs and an NFC East championship), and in six straight defeats, it is very safe to say that the most important player on the entire roster is Romo. “We’ve done that in the past; we’re confident we can do that again”. Remember, even last year’s finally triumphant season required a few co-operation from the Eagles, in dropping a few big games late, maybe a big call in the Lions game, and so on.
