Ousted Baylor football coach Art Briles visited the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, Calif., Tuesday and said he expects to be working again by late fall. He has a couple former players on the roster, including wide receiver Terrance Williams and rookie tight end Rico Gathers.

Jones wasted little time in saying Briles deserved another chance, although he did not want that to be confused with the seriousness of the rape allegations and how everything was handled at Baylor. Jones and son Stephen have long revered Briles for his success as a high school and college coach. Briles was asked what he learned going through the scandal at Baylor.

“I’m just going to make sure that I have policies in place that are protective of everybody, students first and foremost, then administrators, coaches”. I know what I’ve been for 60 years. “It’s an honor and privilege to be in the game”.

Briles was also quoted in the story, and here’s what he had to say about his desire to coach next season. He also said he hoped to find work as soon as next season.

Unfortunately some jobs will come open. I’ve never rooted against anybody or any team, but that’s the nature of the business, so we’ll see what happens then.

He does not believe the fallout from the scandal will affect his chances to land a new job.

– Briles said he has known Grobe, the 64-year-old former Wake Forest coach, for seven or eight years.

Asked if he had been treated fairly by the school, Briles said: “Oh, you know, I haven’t really even thought about that”.

Briles has an especially close relationship with the Cowboys.

Former Baylor coach Art Briles understands he needs to be able to reinvent himself if he wants to be considered for another coaching job.

“He has such a distinguished coaching career”, Jones said. “Certainly I think he would be a great asset to an organization,.at any level”.
