Jerry Seinfeld launching Beacon Theatre residency

Massapequa native Jerry Seinfeld is taking up residence at The Beacon Theater.

1, 2015, that Seinfeld will perform at the Beacon Theatre in Upper Manhattan as part of a residency called “Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand”.

Seinfeld said in a statement that the 2,800-seat Beacon has always been his favorite NY theater.

“Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand” has dates lined up for January 7, February 18, March 2, April 14, May 5 and June 8.

“Jerry Seinfeld is one of the most influential and respected comedians of all time”, said James Dolan, executive chairman of The Madison Square Garden Company, which owns the theatre. “The Beacon is that place for me and I am so excited to make it my new home”. Ticket prices for Seinfeld’s shows will range from $79 to $175, and the first shows go on sale next Tuesday. But he’s also struck out into other fields, hosting the web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and directing two of his fellow comedian Colin Quinn’s one-man shows.

In fact, the concept of “residency” is fairly rare for New York: In recent years, only Billy Joel has set himself up as a permanent act.

Usually, performers, especially musicians and singers, set up lucrative residencies in Vegas palaces, performing in glamorous luxury without the tedious grind of touring.
