Israeli police shoot dead Palestinian man after alleged assault on police officer
The Palestinian health ministry in the West Bank indicated that the dead man was a Palestinian whose identity was not yet known. The two police took a step back to avoid the attack while one of them fired at the assailant, killing him at the scene.
Both victims were apparently soldiers guarding at a gas station in the village, along Route 60, a main north-south West Bank artery used by Palestinians and Israeli settlers alike.

While the majority of recent attacks have been carried out without the organization of political factions, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has not publicly condemned the recent attacks or upsurge in demonstrations. The Palestinians say it is rooted in frustrations stemming from almost five decades of Israeli occupation.
