Jerusalem Fire at 6000 Acres, Growing Rapidly

The fire burning in the Jerusalem Valley in Lake County, dubbed the Jerusalem Fire and within mere miles from the Rocky fire, has consumed 6,000 acres, with zero containment reported to date, according to a Monday evening update from Cal Fire. Authorities say Jerusalem Valley Road is closed to all traffic at Spruce Grove Road and fire personnel and emergency vehicles will be working in the area. Several witnesses told deputies that Silva started the fire.

The fire’s path Monday was headed south and southeast, toward further rugged terrain north of Lake Berryessa. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in the area of Jerusalem Grade Road.

The fire was also threatening the Hidden Valley Lakes community near Middletown, but there were no advisory evacuation warnings in place, said Paul Lowenthal, Cal Fire spokesman. “We’re hearing frustration from residents”.

The nearby Wragg Fire in Napa and Solano counties was declared at 100 percent containment last week, after consuming 8,000 acres, Cal Fire said. Officials hope to have the fire contained by Thursday.

More than 1,000 firefighters are battling the incident.

The wildfire broke out Saturday in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
