The Dutchman has plenty of targets, but admits he will struggle to land a few of them.

Louis van Gaal was clearly annoyed following the 3-0 loss away at Arsenal and cited the preparation for the game as one of the main reasons for the sluggish performance.

Despite seeing Luke Shaw sidelined for the foreseeable future, Louis van Gaal can brand himself somewhat fortunate to have not overseen more injury setbacks at Old Trafford this term.

“It is also dependant on what I can buy”.

“And I have provided a lot of examples in my managerial career of that”.

“That is why I have sold a lot of players and have a lot out on loan”.

“It was pure happiness when it went in”. My family were here as well, it put a smile on their faces as well. “I think my girlfriend has recorded it so I will watch it again later”.

Possibly the most skillful player at the Manchester United academy, Callum Gribbin got the club’s social media team so excited last season that they rushed to Twitter to post a video of his chief party trick, as he nutmegged a pair of Aston Villa Under-18s. Lingard made his senior debut for the club on the opening day of last season, but a serious knee injury kept him out of action for most of the 2014/15 campaign.

While the likes of Adnan Januzaj and Will Keane were allowed to leave on a temporary basis this summer, Van Gaal had no intention of letting Lingard leave.

In the Telegraph, Van Gaal had words of praise for Jesse Lingard, a player who has improved the slack attacking play since his introduction, but said that he expected more consistency before he could be considered for the England squad.

It could have been a much different story had Saido Berahino not wasted a free header from six yards out just after United had taken the lead.

Tony Pulis refused to criticise the striker, however. Mata stroked home a penalty after Gareth McAuley had been sent off for chopping down the fleeing Martial.
