Jesse Matthew formally charged with abduction and murder of Morgan Harrington

Their daughter, a Virginia Tech student, had disappeared five years earlier at the same time of year, around the same time of night and in the same place – Charlottesville, Virginia. Her remains were found October. 18.

A 14-year-old Muslim student will face no criminal charges for taking a homemade clock to class that his suburban Dallas high school teachers thought resembled a bomb, the police chief said Wednesday.

That someone, according to investigators, is Jesse Matthew.

Matthew was arrested September 24 in Galveston County, Texas.

Matthew was convicted this summer of attempted capital murder, abduction and sexual assault in a 2005 case involving a woman in Fairfax City.

“The court finds the evidence in this case is overwhelming”, Schell said. Scientists wrote in court filings that there is only a “1 in greater than 7.2 billion” chance that the DNA was not his.

Morgan Harrington disappeared in October of 2009. Her body was found 101 days later in a field about 10 miles south of the city. “And also from the clothing that was found that belonged to Ms. Harrington, several blocks away from John Paul Jones Arena”, he said. No charges were filed in Harrington’s disappearance or death.

The 20-year-old Virginia Tech student vanished after attending a Metallica concert in Charlottesville.

“This is the verification that my daughter was actually murdered”, Gil Harrington told WTVR News upon hearing of the charges.
