Jessica Biel Is Returning to TV for a New Crime Thriller
U.S. has ordered a pilot for The Sinner, a project executive produced by and starring Jessica Biel, EW has learned. In addition to starring she will also executive produce.

Not only will Biel star in the drama about a young mother who “commits a public act of violence”, but she’ll also be active behind the camera as an executive producer. The event launches an “utterly surprising crime thriller”, says USA.
Biel will also be the executive producer of “The Sinner” with her and partner, Michelle Purple’s Iron Ocean Films production together with Simonds and director Antonio Campos, Deadline reported.
An investigator becomes interested in uncovering the real motive behind the mother’s action, and as the series progresses they will discover the violent secret hidden in the past.
The story is based on German crime writer Petra Hammesfahr’s novel of the same name, with the pilot being adapted by Derek Simonds (“The Astronaut Wives Club”).
If The Sinner is picked up by the network, it would mark another gritty drama that will be airing on the network. The studio is behind a majority of USA’s originals slate, with the exception of the network’s upcoming Shooter remake, which is co-produced by Paramount TV, and the recently renewed Queen of the South from Fox 21.

For six seasons, Biel played Mary Camden on 7th Heaven, the second oldest child and the oldest daughter. Her other TV credits include a guest gig on New Girl and providing her voice to Netflix’s animated series Bojack Horseman.
