Jets, Bowles surprised, disappointed Richardson hid arrest

There is no word at this time whether Richardson will face any charges related to drug use. My family that was in the auto with me… The coach and the rest of the team were disappointed by the defensive lineman’s arrest – and stunned that Richardson didn’t disclose it to the team.

Via Brian Costello of the New York Post, the local prosecutor said he can’t bring child endangerment or marijuana charges against Richardson even though the report said there was a 12-year-old and the fresh odor of marijuana in a vehicle that was clocked as fast as 143 miles per hour. “Clearly, he needs a few help”. “This is a wake-up call”.

Now, none of this looks good for Richardson or New York. He said he apologized to his teammates and the organization, telling them that he took full accountability for his actions. I apologize to my family, to the Jets’ organization. “I made a bad decision, not informing them”. “I’m thankful and grateful for that”.

Tim Lohmar, the prosecuting attorney for St. Charles County, said no marijuana charges were filed because police didn’t find any evidence in the vehicle.

The potential punishment for resisting arrest carries a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail. As said by it, Richardson appeared to reach for something between his feet when he was being stopped, and that a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered from underneath the driver’s side floor. “But (Richardson’s) a good guy”.

Richardson spoke to reporters after the Jets’ first practice of training camp this week, but before the news was released about the incident; the Jets say they were not aware of the incident until they saw media reports, according to NBCPhiladelphia. In another quote from that same interview, Richardson said “Seeing yourself going from Pro Bowl to second string, can’t do nothing but be disappointed in yourself”. If you have children, you know that if you say things, they’re going to disappoint you, and you’ve got to come back. “This is something he has to go through in his career and you just try to help him and back him up”.

While the future of Sheldon Richardson is something the Jets front office needs to address down the road, the extension of fellow defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson has become an absolute top priority.

But Bowles said he’ll have to see it to believe it. “If it weren’t for the fact that the defendant is a famous NFL player, I don’t think this would be that much out of ordinary”.

Richardson can participate in training-camp practices and preseason games, but he is not eligible to play in a regular-season game until October 18 against Washington.

Still, it’s unclear when he will suit up again for the Jets in a game that matters. “We’re pretty darn sure we know what was going on there”, he said. His parents only learned of the arrest on Thursday.

“We’re all shocked by it”, guard Willie Colon said. “We just want him to be a better person off the field”.
