Jets cut Quinton Coples
Andy Lyons/Getty Images Quinton Coples doesn’t produce enough moments like sacking Colts QB Andrew Luck in September and finds himself being waived by the Jets on Monday. Given that he is 6-foot-6 and 290-pounds being asked to play linebacker, I doubt it was the scheme that had anything to do with it. The Ravens with the 4th waiver wire spot, could and should make a play for Coples.

No one is safe. He had barely been playing in Todd Bowles’ system.
On the surface, cutting a former first-round pick in the middle of the season nearly sporadically without any early indication just seems odd. Coples had signed a four-year fully-guaranteed $8.8 million contract with the team.
“He just wasn’t a fit for us”, Bowles said.
Manish Mehta: “Coples clearly wasn’t a good fit”.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the news.
Several Pittsburgh Steelers fans are now seemingly wanting the team to claim Coples off of waivers as a reclamation product. While Derrick Shelby has played well in Cameron Wake’s absence the Dolphins are needing more depth at the position.
This season, Coples has just four tackles and a fumble recover in the 10 games he has played. Coples recorded 16.5 sacks his first three seasons, including a career-high 6.5 in 2014. He only played in 5 snaps vs. the Texans.
This move reunites Coples with Mike Tannenbaum, who was the general manager of the Jets when the team made a decision to draft him.
Another name on Hughes’ list should scare Jets fans to death: the New England Patriots.

The timing of the transaction came as a surprise, but it was clear throughout the season that Coples’ time with the Jets was coming to a close. (The Jets sure didn’t.) It was obvious the Jets were going to cut him after this season, since he wasn’t playing.
