Jets G Oday Aboushi suspended one game

The NFL announced today that Aboushi has been suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Aboushi is battling for a roster spot with the Jets. “This is something I’ve learned from and I’m focused on moving forward”, Aboushi said in a statement.

This could shed some light on how Aboushi, who started the majority of games for the Jets last season, suddenly found himself on the bottom of the depth chart. Oh, and Jets quarterback Geno Smith is also nursing a broken jaw after being punched by a then-teammate in a dispute over $600. In fact, only one player (New England’s Jordan Devey) managed to grade out below Winters with fewer snaps. He’s young and has starting experience, but the new coaching staff is trying to build a roster in its image. “Oday accepted responsibility for the traffic infraction and all other charges were dismissed”. “We will support Oday as we continue with our preparations for the upcoming season”.

According to a press release from the Morris Plains (N.J.) police department obtained by Newsday on Friday morning, police pulled over Aboushi at 8:39 p.m. on January 10 for a motor violation. Smith, who underwent surgery last Thursday, is expected to be out 6-10 weeks. Aboushi was originally in the mix for right-guard duties, but was quickly beaten out by Willie Colon. “I’ve always been told that versatility is always better”, Aboushi said. He has a lot of work to do though, as he is already on the third team, and the next step if you fall from that rung is usually the street as a free agent.
