The NFL announced today that Aboushi has been suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Aboushi is battling for a roster spot with the Jets. “This is something I’ve learned from and I’m focused on moving forward”, Aboushi said in a statement.

According to a press release from the Morris Plains (N.J.) police department obtained by Newsday on Friday morning, police pulled over Aboushi at 8:39 p.m. on January 10 for a motor violation. Smith, who underwent surgery last Thursday, is expected to be out 6-10 weeks. Aboushi was originally in the mix for right-guard duties, but was quickly beaten out by Willie Colon. “I’ve always been told that versatility is always better”, Aboushi said. He has a lot of work to do though, as he is already on the third team, and the next step if you fall from that rung is usually the street as a free agent.
