Jets’ Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks after punched by teammate

In a stunning announcement today, Jets coach Todd Bowles said that Smith suffered a broken jaw when he was “sucker punched” by Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali.

Smith, entering his third season, required surgery to fix the jaw.

This season will likely be his final chance to prove his value to the Jets, so any injury that could keep him off the field is damaging to his future. Bowles says Smith will miss 6-10 weeks and that Enemkpali has been released from the team.

A clearly annoyed Bowles said Enemkpali punched Smith over “a very childish matter… something two sixth-graders could’ve handled”.

Journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, aka the Amish Rifle, started 12 games last year with the Houston Texans, completing 63.1 percent of his throws for 2,483 yards, 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions. “It’s something we can’t stand. You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”.
