Jets interrupt ex-punter’s radio show to sign him for Patriots game
Weatherford was cut by the Giants in early September when the team traded for punter Brad Wing from the Steelers.

A few hours later, Weatherford was back with the Jets.
Weatherford spent two seasons with the Jets from 2009-10 before playing for the Giants from 2011-14. According to NFLPA records, his base salary was scheduled to be $2.175 million for this season and $2.325 for 2016.
Quigley had not appeared on the Jets’ injury report all week, but took a hard shot to his right leg from Washington’s Jeron Johnson on a blocked punt that Rashad Ross recovered for a touchdown last Sunday. That is above his career average of 44.5 yards. Opponents are returning his punts 23.7 yards on average, which is five yards worse than any other qualified punter. This season he’s already punted the ball 22 times for almost 1,000 yards.
It turns out that the Jets were in need of a punter because their regular guy, Ryan Quigley, was downgraded to questionable on Saturday after not being listed on the injury report all week.

If Quigley does miss this week’s game, and signing a second punter suggests he will, it’s an audition opportunity for his 32-year-old replacement.
