Jets’ Mangold practices for first time since neck injury

Under first-year coach Todd Bowles, the NY Jets are learning via imperfect victories. The Jets went into Sunday’s game as the on paper favorite, but the game was close. “I’ll definitely play faster come Sunday”.

Bradley also said that we may not have seen the last of Gerhart this season.

The veteran center was listed as probable for the game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after fully participating in practice Friday. Cromartie also gave up a 49-yard touchdown pass to Oakland Raiders WR Andre Holmes in last week’s loss. The Jaguars might have scored the go-ahead touchdown and pulled the upset if not for the numerous mistakes they made in the fourth quarter, when Jacksonville turned the ball over three times and was flagged for a costly offsides during a first-and-goal from the Jets’ 10-yard-line. It may be the latter, but Williams deserves to play either way.

The NY Jets haven’t had an impact pass rusher on the edge in many years. Lorenzo Mauldin showed his potential to be that guy on Sunday, posting two of the Jets’ six sacks on the game. That being said, Ivory might have a point, and if he thought they were missing assignments before, he’ll be 100 percent convinced when he watches the film against the Jaguars. But the banged-up Jets (5-3) are down several key players with only three days to prepare before their Thursday night game against their AFC East rival.

Brandon Marshall #15 of the NY Jets avoids the tackle attempt by Aaron Colvin #22 of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the first quarter at MetLife Stadium on November 8, 2015 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jets won, 28-23.

Marshall was back fielding the punt and appeared to have a lot of running room, but he muffed the punt and the Jets recovered on the Jaguars 25 and quickly scored to take a 28-16 lead.

The running game was a non-factor for the second week in a row as Ivory was held to 26 yards on 23 carries. Jacksonville beat Buffalo two weeks ago at London, but that was technically a “home” game for the Jaguars. After a Week Seven loss to Oakland, Ivory called out the Jets’ offensive line, saying it missed too many assignments.

The other big story of the day was injuries.

Newton’s rushing TD was the 38th of his career, moving him into a tie with Kordell Stewart for second-most all-time among quarterbacks. “It was better. Everybody was unhappy with what we saw on film”.

Nick Folk (below) was unable to kick on Sunday after injuring HIS quad during warmups. The Jaguars seemed to steal the momentum, putting together a great drive just before halftime.

With all three timeouts left and 90 seconds left in the first half, Bowles tried to run out the clock, which backfired when Jacksonville quickly shut them down and just as rapidly moved the ball down the field; Allen Hurns’ 30-yard end zone reception moved Jacksonville to a 14-13 deficit heading into halftime.

The visitors responded just before the break when Allen Hurns raided in behind the coverage of Buster Skrine to collect a deep pass from Blake Bortles to notch a touchdown, bringing his side within four points.

And that goes without mentioning their head coach put them in a perilous position on several occasions during the game with questionable decisions and playcalling.
