Jets might have blown their playoff chances with loss to the Texans

When the Houston Texans were 3-5, many fans thought the second half of the season was sure to bring more pain.

Getting outplayed, outcoached and outeverythinged by a team starting its backup quarterback, the Jets’ season and Gang Green’s hopes for a playoff spot continued to go South Sunday with a dismal 24-17 loss to the Texans. The game has a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. ET and takes place from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

T.J. Yates has won fans over by quarterbacking the Texans to their… I predicted a couple weeks ago that Buffalo and Oakland would be the teams to surprise everyone and make the playoffs (the Bills are still on pace, by the way, before Monday’s game against the Patriots), but now Jacksonville might have the best shot at being the surprise playoff team of 2015-despite being 4-6.

Shorts, a quarterback early in his college career at Mount Union, took a lateral from Yates and tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Blue to make it 17-10 with about eight minutes left in the third quarter.

DYNAMIC DUO: Jets wide receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall have touchdown catches in the same game five times this season. Fitz kept for 4 yards on 3rd-and-5 to the Texans 21, then kept again on fourth down to move the chains. Hopkins beat CB Darrelle Revis on the play, and later beat CB Marcus Williams for a 20-yard score after Revis exited with a concussion. Novak added the PAT and Houston led 10-3. Both teams will be looking to make a statement this Sunday, as Yates will attempt to show head coach Bill O’Brien why he deserves to command the offense, while Jets’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his return to Houston for the first time since the Jets acquired him via trade during the offseason.

In a game that began in a downpour with gusty winds but ended in the Florida sunshine, Romo looked a little rusty but got more confident as the game rolled on. Sure enough, the Jets bit hard, and Shorts hit a wide-open Blue on a attractive wide receiver pass for their second touchdown of the game. He took a direct snap and ran for 5 yards two plays before the TD throw. Novak connected on the extra point, and the Texans led 24-10. They won’t have much success today either, as the Jets rank fourth in the National Football League in total yards allowed (318.4), ninth in passing yards allowed (230.3) and second in rushing yards allowed (88.1) per game this year.

“We’re just playing good football”. I think all three phases are feeding off each other right now. “Some people recover faster than others, so I’m just going to have to wait and see”.

“We still have a lot of things to work on”. In fact, the influx of talent has helped them. We’re doing a good job in practice. Even if he does, Minnesota now seems like the better team.

– The loss dropped the Jets to 4-4 in the AFC, with losses against teams that are now sitting just ahead of them in the postseason picture.
