Jets, QB Fitzpatrick End Contract Dispute

Geno knows he had an easy path to be the starter of the New York Jets this year and it was all for not after the Jets & Fitzpatrick agreed on a deal. Their new season is inching closer and closer. The Colts play the Jets in week 13 on December 5, a Monday Night Football contest in NY.

Apparently, the Jets increased their offer Wednesday (July 27) from $9 million to $12 million, and gave Fitzpatrick a decision: take the deal or the team would be “moving on”. The Jets got him for a year to be a stopgap but haven’t committed to him to being a franchise guy. So it’s noteworthy news when a playoff contender in the AFC signs their starting quarterback, particularly when that team will face the Colts this season. He continued to say that while the process appeared it was going to turn out to be a long process, he attempted to put it to the side and just live his life. It was hovering. looming over my head for five, six months.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets now can put the focus back on the field, where they will be trying to improve upon their 10-6 finish last season and return to the postseason for the first time since the 2010 season.

After a contract standoff that lasted the entire National Football League offseason, Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to be on the practice field with the Jets today.

NY may of learned not to wait last minute to solve contract problems though. Both of those guys had outstanding years last year, and I look for that to continue. It’s simple: the Fitzpatrick-New York relationship won’t last beyond this season.

At this time last season, coach Todd Bowles had to deal with Sheldon Richardson’s four-game suspension and the defensive tackle’s subsequent arrest for speeding.

“Woody [Johnson, the Jets’ owner] completely shut him out”.

Fitzpatrick had the the best season of his career a year ago, throwing a franchise record 31 touchdowns and nearly leading the Jets to the playoffs.

“I might have been 3 seconds late, which is a minute late, I guess”, Fitzpatrick said after the Jets’ first camp practice Thursday, “but I wasn’t technically under contract, so I don’t think they can fine me”. They did not make a Super Bowl appearance, but they had a solid run. The last time NY graced the postseason was in the 2010 season where it reached the conference championship before being eliminated by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
