What may have caused the poor game for Fitzpatrick could have been the result of a busted left thumb. Of course, who knows what would have happened if those turnovers hadn’t happened, but the Jets defense did very well outside of a seven-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to start the third quarter. The first quarter ended with the fifth punt of the game while the Jets held on to what would be their only lead of the night, 3-0.
That field goal followed rookie Karlos Williams’s 26-yard TD reception on the first series of the second half.
New England is a touchdown favorite over the Giants in a game getting a lot of interest because of the history between the two teams. Fitzpatrick lofted a ball in the end zone that went over the head of Davis and the Bills took over on downs. That woke up the crowd, and NY forced a three-and-out. Despite the great field position, NY didn’t come away with any points, as Todd Bowles made a decision to go for a touchdown instead of a field goal. He was well covered and thrown for a 2-yard loss, then limped off, but returned on the Jets’ next series.

Notes: Running back Zac Stacy (broken ankle) is done for the year after being injured while returning a kickoff against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night. One reason they have little national identity is they wear too many uniform combinations as it is. Fitzpatrick now has 138 career TD passes, surpassing Hall of Famer Sid Luckman for the most by an Ivy League QB in the NFL. Stacy underwent surgery Friday.
