Jets rally late in 4th, top Giants in OT
SITTING OUT: Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson sat the entire first quarter, something he and Bowles called “a coach’s decision”. We had that game in hand. “We’ve got to execute, put it in right there and we didn’t do it”. Rontez Miles intercepted Eli Manning’s pass and returned it to the Jets 14, starting the Giants on the road to a fifth loss in a game they squandered a fourth-quarter lead. With a 23-20 overtime victory, the Jets improved to 7-5 while the Giants dropped to 5-7. Fitzpatrick hit Brandon Marshall for a 9-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining to tie it and went 36 for 50 for 390 yards. Harris became the third Giants player to have a kickoff and punt return for touchdowns in the same season, joining Hall of Famer Emlen Tunnell (1951) & Jimmy Patton (1955). “Fourth quarter in overtime getting to be out there with the guys”.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Jets on a 10-play, 71-yard drive, throwing the game-tying score to Brandon Marshall on a fade route against Prince Amukamara. Dalton connected with A.J. Green for a 23-yard TD pass in the second quarter and the Bengals moved to 10-2. And he led the Jets to two scoring drives in the final 8:42 of regulation, then the game-winning drive in overtime. That left many questioning Coughlin and wondering whether the Giants (5-7) are headed for a fourth straight season out of the playoffs. The Jets are playing like a completely different team after dropping four out of five, and much of that is thanks to Fitzpatrick. “I don’t care about anything at that point”. The Giants were set up at the Jets’ ten, but they were held to a field goal. The drive killed a 17-play drive that took over 11 minutes off of the clock and, with a field goal, could’ve essentially ended the game, forcing the Jets to have to score two touchdowns instead of just a field goal and a touchdown, which they almost perfectly did. The Jets on Sunday finished with 463 yards – and an average of 6 yards per play.
“We bounced around from team to team”, Marshall said he told Fitzpatrick on the sideline as they waited.
On how the team showed poise: “I just think we showed a lot of maturity today”.
“We’ve been beat up a few times this year”, Marshall said, “and it was time for one of these games to go our way”.
Don’t forget the key three-and-out that left the Jets’ the chance to tie the game. But this is a pattern that has burned them (5-7) this season. “(Decker) is obviously a seasoned veteran and kind of knows the soft spots just as a quarterback would know the soft spots of some of those zones and was able to do a really nice job in terms of finding them and us being on the same page”. “They had outstanding practices on Wednesday and Thursday”. We had a stretch of games that really didn’t go our way but we’re still out there practicing hard. They face three sub-.500 teams in their next three games (Giants, Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys), before hosting the New England Patriots in Week 16 and then traveling to Buffalo for what could be a play-in game against the Bills in the season finale.
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (13) runs away from New York Jets’ Marcus Gilchrist (21) and Antonio Cromartie (31) for a touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in East Ruther…
WR Jeremy Kerley left the game in the second half with a migraine headache. The Giants lost LT Ereck Flowers early in the third quarter to a left ankle sprain, while quarterback Eli Manning was spotted having X-rays for an unspecified injury concern that he passed off as “checking to see if anything was broken.”…
