Jets rookie receiver Devin Smith tears ACL, out for season
Smith was selected by NY in the second round out of Ohio State in the 2015 National Football League draft. Bowles says Smith is probably headed to season-ending injured reserve.

Surgery hasn’t been scheduled yet.
Smith was hurt while covering the Jets’ first punt of the game in the third quarter of New York’s 30-8 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. He could not put any weight on his right leg as he was positioned onto a cart by the Jets’ medical employees. Smith caught his first touchdown pass two weeks ago against the Dolphins, which had Offensive Coordinator Chan Gailey hoping it would serve as a catalyst for the remainder of the season. He will miss the rest of the season. And he started playing faster from a route standpoint, from a blocking standpoint, from a recognition standpoint. Head coach Todd Bowles said Monday that Kerley is getting treatment and that more about his prognosis will be known later in the week.

Jets WR Jeremy Kerley’s Week 15 status is “up in the air” due to a bruised calf. On Sunday, Smith was targeted three times but did not register a catch. Said Bowles: “We’re just treating it and we’ll see how he is toward the end of the week”. If he’s out, the Jets will be thin at wideout behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Asked if the team expects to make a move, Bowles said: “We’ve got Thompkins, and depending on how Kerley comes around we’re looking around”.
