Jets Rout Titans to Stay in Hunt
The stingy defense did the rest. The Tennessee Titans were a putrid 3-9 coming into today’s match.

Dec 13, 2015; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall (15) celebrates his touchdown against the Tennessee Titans with New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (14) during the second quarter at MetLife Stadium. “We did a good job”. With three more games to go for the NY Jets they don’t want to get too ahead of themselves, especially with the Pittsburgh Steelers hot on their tale for the last seed in the AFC playoffs. They played a good game, a solid game and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. He also has thrown a career-high 25 touchdown passes, four off Vinny Testaverde’s franchise record. The Titans and Mariota now take to the road to take on the 7-5 New York Jets, a team very much in the AFC Playoff hunt.
“That’s the media talking, it’s a trap game”, Richardson said. “When we did it game speed, it worked”.
Marshall and Decker on Sunday had touchdown receptions in the same game for the seventh time this season.
“I’d like to just see both of these guys break some of these tackles”, Mularkey said of his backs, who have been part of the trouble of an offense that ranks 28th in the league.
When Fitzpatrick gets knocked down, he begins to feel the pocket collapsing around him and has a tendency to make bad throws. “I played receiver growing up, and had experience in high school as a receiver”.
Mariota went 21-for-39 for 274 yards and one costly interception in the Titans’ 30-8 loss to the Jets. “The first half was a good example of if you play poorly in all three phases, you’re going to have a hard time against a good football team”. He was carted off the field a few minutes later while holding a towel over his head.
With temperatures an unseasonably warm 68 degrees at kickoff, the Jets got off to a roaring start.
Powell took a short pass from Fitzpatrick and slipped and zipped his way into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown that made it 20-0.
Searcy later left with a hamstring injury. Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick noticed and got a quick snap, tossing an easy pass to an uncovered Brandon Marshall for a 69-yard TD.
“That was not good”, Mularkey said. In other words, Just Give All of Us the Damn Ball.
First quarter, :51 left: Randy Bullock made a 47-yard field goal, extending the Jets lead to 10-0. The Titans were outgained 439-292 in the game.
“I felt like it was an opportunity for me to play, which in having been cut and having been released and traded and all the different things that I’ve been through in my career, you never know when opportunities are going to come”, he said after practice Tuesday. Mariota sprinted past a falling Calvin Pryor and into the end zone. After three plays Skrine grabbed an errant pass intended for running back Dexter McCluster, and again the Jets settled for three making the score 13-0. They’ve played within a touchdown in all but one of their past five games.

Marshall and Decker have been dominant, as dynamic a receiving duo there is in the NFL. Fitzpatrick, Eric Decker, and Chris Ivory all owe a debt of gratitude to Marshall because without him then no one would be almost as successful as they have been this year.
