According to the release, O’Fallon Police Department officers clocked two vehicles going at a rate of speed as high as 143 miles per hour on I-64 westbound. The officer said that when Richardson saw the police auto, he sped through a red light and then briefly lost control of his Bentley, with the rear of the vehicle sliding into an oncoming-traffic lane.

Police also reportedly found a fully loaded handgun was found beneath the driver’s seat and a strong scent of marijuana on everyone who was in the vehicle.

Richardson was issued traffic summonses, and has been ordered to appear in St. Charles County Circuit Court on October 27 for arraignment on the charge of resisting arrest.

The arrest occurred less than two weeks after the NFL handed Richardson a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

He was arrested when he finally pulled into a home and that’s when Richardson chose to comply. Resisting arrest is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail or a fine of up to $1,000.

The officer also said the auto and all the passengers smelled of “burned marijuana”.

Earlier today Sheldon Richardson announced he would not fail another NFL drug test because he isn’t a drug fiend. “I told them they don’t have to worry about my name being in the news again”. First-round pick Leonard Williams will likely take over at the right defensive end spot in Richardson’s absence. “While I won’t be there at the start of the regular season, I will do whatever I can to support my teammates until I’m able to return to the field”. The officer said he tracked Richardson via his brake lights. That’s just that. It’s that simple.
